Arctoris Acquires Eli Lilly’s ‘Life Science Studio’ Drug Discovery Automation Lab

Through the strategic acquisition of Eli Lilly’s San Diego ‘Life Science Studio’, Arctoris’ has doubled the size of its existing laboratory, establishing one of the world’s largest robotic drug discovery platforms. The lab automation platform has now been relocated from San Diego to the Arctoris Headquarters in Oxford, United Kingdom.

Arctoris, a pioneering contract research organization (CRO) known for its advanced automated laboratory and data science platform, Ulysses™, announced on Thursday, the acquisition of the majority of Eli Lilly’s San Diego-based Lilly Life Sciences Studio laboratory.

This strategic acquisition significantly boosts Arctoris’ research capabilities, doubling its lab size and enhancing productivity. The expanded facility will enable the company to conduct multiple experiments simultaneously, reducing R&D timelines for biotech clients and addressing reproducibility and data ambiguity issues common in traditional, human-led labs.

Tom Fleming, CEO of Arctoris, commented:

“This acquisition substantially increases our data generation capacity, unlocking bolder and more ambitious possibilities, while delivering even greater project speed and throughput. We strive to make our clients’ drug discovery ambitions a reality, and this expansion of our platform keeps Arctoris at the forefront of rapidly evolving drug discovery data demands.”

Arctoris Enhances Capabilities with New Automated Modules and Expanded Compound Storage

Arctoris has integrated the Science Studio biology platform, adding five new automated biochemistry modules, a high-throughput screening module, and an automated BSL2 cell biology module. Additionally, the company has automated its compound storage, increasing capacity to 4 million compounds with Hamilton Verso and Beckman Access station technologies, and enhanced plate formatting with three Echo dispensers. The Science Studio chemistry platform has been acquired by SpiroChem.
