Breakthrough Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) Particle Characterisation Technology
Xtal Concepts manufactures and distributes a unique line of Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) nano- and microparticle characterisation instruments and imaging systems that transform scientific and pharmaceutical research methodologies.
Their product portfolio includes sophisticated DLS benchtop instruments that can assess the complete range of particle sizes found in biochemistry. The groundbreaking in situ or ‘in plate’ DLS technology enables particle size determination in previously unattainable small sample volumes.
Xtal’s in situ DLS instruments provide an exceptionally time and sample-efficient method of obtaining particle size information from multiple sub-µl samples in a single run, without the need for sample preparation.
The unique features of the in situ DLS instruments empower researchers to break the glass ceiling in nanoparticle characterisation and detect even minute changes in particle sizes gaining key insights to optimising drug formulations, gene therapy and vaccine development.
Automated Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) Particle Sizing Instruments
The SpectroLight 600/610 represents a significant leap in analytical instrumentation design and technology. As a fully automated Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) particle sizing instrument with an integrated microscope, it combines exceptional accuracy and versatility, making it an indispensable tool for various laboratory applications. This compact yet powerful in situ DLS benchtop device seamlessly integrates into laboratory workflows, whilst offering unparalleled insights into particle behaviour and characteristics.
Particle Sizing in Unmatched Small Sample Volumes with in situ DLS
The technical realisation of in situ DLS enables ultra-precise particle size determination in unmatched small sample volumes, ranging from 0.08 µl to 1 µl. Particle size determination by in plate DLS also offers high reproducibility with a deviation of only ±2%. Whether studying nanoparticles, proteins, virus particles, or colloidal systems, this instrument is a game-changer delivering fast, highly reliable and reproducible results.
For example, the in situ DLS technology reveals insights into the behaviour of adenoviral vectors, typically sized between 0.08 µm – 0.11µm. Understanding their assembly dynamics, and the role of size distribution in their functionality is essential for optimising gene therapies and vaccine development.
Seamless DLS Integration and Workflow Optimisation
The SpectroLight 600/610 system’s compatibility with standard 96-well plates ensures seamless integration into existing laboratory setups. Researchers have the convenience of using diverse sample formats without cuvettes, special consumables, or cleaning.
The system enables precise positioning within the sample and automated screening for pH, detergents, buffers, and other conditions. By using a minimal sample volume of only 9.6 µl, researchers gain insights into their sample’s well-being across a full plate with 96 conditions. The plates can be reused for measurements over several weeks, enhancing data reliability.
The SpectroLight 600/610 incorporates a fully integrated laboratory microscope. Researchers can visually inspect samples, detecting colloidal or solid contaminants to enhance sample quality assessment. Additionally, the optional UV imaging allows rapid crystal identification.
The versatile DLS device is ideal for many laboratory applications such as sample quality or stability analysis, buffer screening, monodispersity determination, and workflow monitoring. Its impact extends beyond particle characterisation contributing to informed decision-making, data quality, faster research, and drug development cycles.
