The ready-to-design Hydrogel Kits by Cellendes empower researchers to conveniently design biomimetic hydrogels for specific applications. The composition and properties of the hydrogels can be chosen independently from one another, offering the highest flexibility in designing biomimetic hydrogels for each specific cell culture.
3D Cell Culture Advantages for Drug Discovery
Due to their close resemblance to in vivo cell environments, 3D cell cultures have seen increased use in drug discovery applications. A higher level of precision in the identification of promising lead compounds from high-throughput screens significantly increases the chances of success of investigational drugs through the preclinical validation and clinical trials stages.
The novel 3-D Life hydrogel technology developed by Cellendes is designed to answer the needs of researchers for cell-based assays which can closely mimic the complex microenvironment cells encounter in a tissue.
The chemically defined nature of 3-D Life Hydrogels excludes animal-derived components making cultures highly reproducible. By contrast to animal-derived hydrogels, 3-D Life Hydrogels ensure that there are no batch-to-batch variations, achieving significantly more reliable results in drug screening.
Offering superior precision, reproducibility and convenience of use, 3-D Life Hydrogels enable researchers to increase the accuracy of drug effects prediction and thereby accelerate the successful identification of lead compounds with a higher chance of achieving primary endpoints in later studies and clinical trials.
3-D Life Technology for Biomimetic Hydrogels used in 3D Cell Culture
The 3-D Life technology for generation of biomimetic hydrogels used in 3-D cell culture consists of two polymers forming a hydrogel by covalent crosslinking at ambient temperatures. The non-toxic chemical reaction guarantees the optimal survival of cells. The choice of very quick or slow gelling gels allows researchers to adapt the gel set-up to many different procedures ranging from single gel to multiwell plate cultures, injections and automated culture set-ups.
Adapting extracellular environments to specific cell culture requirements is also made possible with the 3-D Life technology which allows fast and convenient customisation of the ready-to-design hydrogels by independently adding the needed biofactors, such as signals for cell adhesion and matrix metalloprotease-triggered matrix remodeling. Furthermore, synthetic and well-defined constituents ensure highly reproducible gel properties. Cells can be embedded inside the gel matrix or cultivated on top of the gel.
Due to the perfect transparency of the hydrogels, 3D cultured cells can easily be analysed by microscopy, including the use of imunostaining techniques. Cells can also be recovered from the hydrogel for post culture analyses, such as RT-PCR or biochemical assays, by a cell-friendly enzymatically induced degradation of the hydrogels.
Custom Hydrogels for Cell-based Assay Development
The comprehensive range of 3-D Life biocompatible hydrogel reagents for 3D cell culture provides groundbreaking flexibility for cell-based assay development and screening. Offering complete control over composition, exceptional versatility in biomolecular modification, and ease of use, the hydrogel materials are extremely advantageous for numerous applications in the drug discovery process.
With the 3-D Life toolbox of reagents, researchers gain the flexibility to easily customise hydrogels with the desired biomimetic modifications, such as peptides and proteins, for each specific cell culture. The setup of the hydrogel is simple and convenient. All steps, including gel set up, cell cultivation and gel dissolution for post culture analyses are compatible with automation to offer improved workflows in labs.
Cellendes also offers bulk production of hydrogel reagents on demand. Once customers identify the best composition for their cultures, Cellendes can produce larger amounts of custom hydrogels for their screens on request.
Founded in 2009 as a spinoff company of the NMI Natural and Medical Sciences Institute at the University of Tübingen in Germany, Cellendes has become a leading provider of innovative products and services for a broad range of applications in 3D cell culture.
