Striatech Backs ARVO’s Rising Vision Scientist
At Striatech, advancing the future of ophthalmic research is a central commitment. In partnership with the ARVO Foundation for Eye and Vision Research, Striatech proudly sponsors the next generation of pioneering researchers through the Striatech Travel Grant.
For the 2025 ARVO Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City, Striatech is honored to recognize Manqi Pan of The Ohio State University as this year’s distinguished Travel Grant recipient.
Understanding the Human Optic Nerve Head’s Response to Elevated Intra-Ocular Pressure (IOP)
Manqi Pan’s cutting-edge research explores the viscoelastic behavior of the human optic nerve head (ONH) and peripapillary sclera (PPS) in response to elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) — a critical factor in the progression of glaucoma and related ocular diseases. Leveraging high-frequency ultrasound elastography, her team has illuminated the biomechanical processes that occur under sustained pressure elevations.
Pan’s findings reveal that an increased radial creep rate in both the optic nerve head and the peripapillary sclera is the predominant viscoelastic response to high IOP. This progressive deformation results in compression and thinning of these key ocular structures — insights that deepen our understanding of pressure-induced optic nerve damage and may inform future diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for glaucoma.
